Description
Not just another cone-shaped upright conifer, ‘Canaertii’ Juniper, also known as Red Cedar, exhibits extra personality. While it shares the typical proportions of other native red cedars, its shape becomes more interesting and distinct over time. When young, it has a fluffy appearance and conical form transforming with age to a more angular and open habit with branch tips extending like arms reaching for the sky. Abundant, showy, cobalt-blue berries stand out beautifully against the rich green foliage to provide even more appeal and a delicious treat for birds. Canaertii is extremely cold and heat hardy thriving in USDA Zones 3 to 9. It likes all the sun you can give it and is deer and insect resistant and drought tolerant when established. Fast growing to about 30 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide, this eye-catching and easy-to-grow north American native evergreen provides unique and fine texture as a specimen, to frame corners of tall homes, or in privacy screen plantings.
