Description
Ever Red, formerly known as ‘Ever Red Sunset’, was the first variety of Loropetalum on the market to produce true-red flowers instead of the usual pink, fuchsia or white flowers produced by other varieties in the genus. The spring flowers have no pink in them – just red hot, and loads of them!
Even though a couple other red-flowering varieties have come along, Ever Red is still our favorite because it displays the deepest burgundy (almost black) foliage of any Loropetalum we’ve seen…and the red flowers really pop against the foliage!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to about 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, or kept smaller with occasional pruning, Ever Red Loropetalum is an ideal choice as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or in straight or staggered rows as a hedge in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Its low water needs makes it suitable for use in Xeriscape plantings. The year round deep purple (almost black) foliage contrasts nicely with plants that have yellow, light green, grey or other light colored foliage or flowers. A fine addition to black or red theme gardens and large containers with a rim diameter of 16 inches or more.
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Ever Red Loropetalum is very easy to grow in most any average moist but well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Established plants are exceptionally drought tolerant. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site. Foliage is more dense and deeper in color in full sun. Requires no pruning, however responds very well to almost any amount, making it an excellent choice for hedges.

My plant arrived quickly, well packed and looked healthy.—————————————Thanks so much! Let us know if there’s ever anything we can help you with. 🙂 – Beth | WBG
I am really pleased with the condition of size of this plant I just received. The foliage is a really dark purple. I am hoping the flowers will be a deeper red than they are right now, I would call them a dark pink. But I think I’ll be happy with this plant. The size and condition of this plant are in sharp contrast to another that came the same day from another vendor…. all 6 inches of it. Will likely order from this supplier again. ——————— WBG Reply: Hi CV – Thanks so much for your business and for taking the time to provide your review. Am a little curious about the bloom color, because the Ever Red Loropetalum do have more of a true-red color…with the orange-tint rather than pink tint. If you don’t mind, send us a closeup photo of the flowers to [email protected] so we can take a look and verify we sent the right variety. On rare occasion we make mistakes. If we did, we’ll be happy to send you the right variety and you can keep the wrong one on us. Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can help you with. – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
