Description
Super cold hardy to -40°F and putting on a dazzling and ever-changing color show throughout the bloom season, ‘Flare’ is a compact panicle Hydrangea to only 3 feet tall and wide. Starting in summer it features abundant clusters of subtly fragrant flowers that open white and gradually change from soft pink to shades of bright pink and finally to the deepest red-pink of any compact panicle Hydrangea. The cooler the weather the more vibrant the color. The flowers resemble a lava lamp or cone shape. The flower color on this shrub is not affected by the soil pH as some Hydrangeas and the attractive green foliage is the perfect backdrop for this flower show!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing to only 3 feet tall and wide, the Flare Hydrangea is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or containers or in groupings or as a colorful hedge in landscape and woodland borders. Also a nice accent in home foundation plantings. A fine addition to mixed flowering shrub borders, Hydrangea gardens, perennial gardens, pink or red theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2.5 feet apart for solid hedges; 7 feet or more for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Flare Hydrangea is easy to grow in aa moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade depending on your location. In zones 3a to 6b it will tolerate full sun or part shade. In zones 7a to 8b it would prefer some filtered sun or shade during the mid afternoon hours. It can take the heat in the South but is also exceptionally cold hardy to -40 degrees F. For best flowering we suggest at least 6 hours of sun a day. USDA Zones: 3a-8b Find Your Zone >
Note: ‘Flare’ is a Hydrangea paniculata species that produces its flowers from buds that are formed on “new wood” (the current season’s growth). This means you don’t want to prune them in late spring or summer when they’re preparing to bloom.
