Description
The Fuyu Persimmon boasts both spectacular foliage and fruits, making it an excellent addition to the edible landscape where it provides year-round appeal. In spring, unusual looking creamy-yellow 4-petaled flowers emerge that are followed by the orange-skinned, deliciously sweet seedless and non-astringent fruits that are the most popular variety sold in American supermarkets and around the world. The abundant fruits ripen towards fall and stay on the tree after the leaves have fallen and into winter, providing awesome appeal to the winter garden. The fruits can be picked and eaten right off the tree, sliced like a tomato, or used in a variety of baked goods. Attractive glossy green leaves turn brilliant golden-yellow shades with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall, contrasting beautifully with the orange fruits. Very easy to grow and low-maintenance, Fuyu has no insect or disease problems, is self-pollinating, and does not require annual pruning like many other deciduous fruit trees.
NOTE: As with all of our other plants and trees, all of our fruit plants are grown in containers outdoors so they are fully rooted and landscape-ready upon arrival.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 15 to 20 feet tall and wide, the Fuyu Persimmon is a small to medium sized tree ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in landscape or garden beds. It can be trained as an espalier (flat against a wall). A must-have tree for wildlife gardens and a fine addition to Asian gardens, edible gardens, orange theme gardens, cottage gardens and orchards.
Suggested Spacing: 32 feet apart for space between trees
Growing Preferences
Fuyu Persimmon is exceptionally easy to grow in a moist but well drained acidic soil of average or better fertility. Will tolerate periodic wet soil.
