Description
An absolutely beautiful alternative for smaller spaces where larger growing Hinoki Cypress won’t fit, ‘Gimborn Beauty’ features gracefully arching branches clothed with feathery, soft-blue new foliage aging to gray-green on a strongly pyramidal form averaging 10 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide at the base. The contrast between the juvenile foliage and elegant sprays of mature leaves is extremely appealing providing a soft texture in the garden. Excellent in the sunny to partially shaded landscape or as a solo or centerpiece in container gardens.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a strongly pyramidal for to 10 to 15 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide at the base, the Gimborn Beauty Hinoki Cypress is ideal for use as an eye-catching specimen in small garden spaces, containers and home foundation plantings. It grows tall enough to frame the corners of homes. Two can be used to frame an entryway, and also nice around sitting areas and other areas where its unique foliage can be observed from up close. A fine addition to conifer gardens, Asian themed gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Growing Preferences
The Gimborn Beauty Hinoki Cypress is very easy to grow in a well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. It is moderately drought tolerant but will appreciate an occasional watering during prolonged periods of dry weather. Otherwise, maintenance is minimal. No pruning is required. Provide a light application of slow release shrub and tree fertilizer in spring.
