Description
In case you’re wondering why the name “Obedient Plant,” it’s because you can move a flower with your fingers and it will stay in that position…in other words, this is a plant whose flowers will obey your command!:-)
The Lavender Obedient Plant is a robust and easy-to-grow North American native perennial plant that grows almost anywhere; from Quebec to Florida to New Mexico! Upright plants clothed in lance-shaped, finely toothed leaves spread by rhizomes to form an attractive and colorful plant in the garden. From early to late summer upright spikes bearing very pretty, snapdragon-like, two-lipped flowers come that the butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial pollinators will immensely appreciate and thank you for. The flowers are excellent for cutting and display in flower arrangements.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and spreading 2 feet or more, Obedient Plant is ideal for use in the middle of the border in perennial and cut flower gardens or along paths and walkways. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and prairie, meadow and wildflower gardens.
Growing Preferences
Obedient Plant is very easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. Some light shade is tolerated but we suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight for best flowering and overall performance. Removal of spent flower spikes after the first bloom cycle may encourage rebloom.
