Description
Way back in the 1995 ‘New Gold’ Lantana won the Georgia Gold Medal Award for its outstanding hardiness, attributes, characteristics and overall performance in the garden. It has stood the test of time for good reason and is still considered to be one of if not the best of the low-growing hardy lantanas. New Gold is one of if not the most profuse bloomers of all the Lantana varieties we grow in our gardens. All summer long and well into fall the trailing mounds are literally smothered in bright golden-yellow flower clusters that butterflies and hummingbirds are sure to find and flock to!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a trailing mound 12 to 18 inches tall and spreading 3 to 4 feet wide over time, New Gold Lantana is ideal for use as an accent, as a low border, in groupings or mass plantings, or to cascade over a wall in sunny landscape borders. It also does very well as a solo or combined with other plants in pots and hanging baskets. For those who live and garden above USDA Zone 8a, where this lantana is not reliably winter hardy, pots can be brought indoors during the winter. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, yellow theme gardens, sunny perennial gardens, cottage gardens and the Xerscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 24 inches solid mass plantings; 5 feet or more apart for space between plants
How To Measure Total Square Feet Of A Planting Area
How Many Plants Needed To Cover A Planting Area?
Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 8a, where this Lantana variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
CAUTION!  Avoid pruning hardy Lantana in the fall as doing so almost always ensures death of the plant! Wait until new growth begins to emerge in spring to remove dead stems. A mid-summer shearing is okay.
Hardy Lantana are very easy to grow in most any moist to somewhat dry well-drained soil of average to even poor fertility and full to mostly sun. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Some light shade is tolerated but plant will grow more dense and produce the most flowers throughout the long flowering season (June to Frost) in full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best performance.

Beth Steele | Wilson Bros Gardens
The plants were healthy, well packaged and grown to the right size for the pot’s. They are all growing and the New Gold Lantana has a very exciting color, true to the photograph. The condition of my first order with Wilson Brothers a few months earlier was also excellent and is the reason that I placed the second order. ——————– WBG Reply: Hi Earl – Thanks so much for your review of the New Gold Lantana and for your compliments! Hope you and the butterflies and hummingbirds enjoy it for years to come. Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can help you with. We’re at your service. – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
Little damage in shipping due to not be secured in box, but have recovered and doing nicely once planted. ———- WBG RESPONSE: Hi Mike – Thanks for providing us with your review and letting us know the plants weren’t secured well enough in the box. I’ll relay this information to our shipping manager so we can take immediate steps to improve the packing method for perennial plants so that they have a safer trip to their destination. We just started shipping perennials and apparently there’s room for improvement in the packaging process. Glad to hear the plants are doing nicely though. Let us know if any don’t make it and we’ll be more than happy to ship replacements out or provide a store credit. Thanks again! – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens
