Description

First off…what a name…how do you say it? Not too difficult to say once you know how it’s pronounced, which is POO-can-ence. Okay, now that we got past the pronunciation of the name, here’s the details…
Poukhanense, also called Korean Yodogawa Azalea, is one of if not the most cold tolerant Azaleas we offer, cold hardy as far north to USDA Zone 4a! It is equally as heat tolerant to USDA Zone 9. If you love the color lavender you’re going to love Poukhanense. LOADS of 2-inch wide lightly fragrant lavender flowers, each with a darker blotch of freckles, smother the plant in spring. As Poukhanense can grow 5 to 6 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide, you’ll want to leave some room for it to grow. The plant is evergreen in zones 8 and 9 during mild winters, but deciduous in colder climates, where the dark green foliage turns an attractive orange-red in fall.
The Korean Azalea is found on the Korean Peninsula from Seoul south in open country, on grassy mountain slopes, and in thin pine woods, at times abundant. In addition, it can be found on the Republic of Korea island of Cheju (Quelpart); and the Japanese islands Shimono and Kamino (collectively Tsushima). An important parent in the development of many of the hybrid evergreen azaleas in the market today.
Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4 to 6 feet tall and 8 to 12 feet wide, the Poukhanense Azalea is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings, mass plantings, or as a low hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. The blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements. A fine addition to purple theme gardens, azalea and rhododendron gardens, cut flower gardens, woodland gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing:  5 feet apart for solid hedges;  13 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, the Poukhanense Azalea is very easy to grow. This one likes part shade to shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun. Morning and evening sun are okay. As with other azaleas, it prefers an acidic, moist but well-drained soil of average or above fertility. A humusy, organically rich soil is preferred. Add plenty of organic matter to heavy clay soils. Apply shredded or chipped wood mulch or pine straw to help retain moisture.

When we moved I had to leave a bush I loved behind. I have no idea what it was, but it was beautiful. This is the closest plant I could find to it and I’m so excited for it to bloom. It arrived in excellent condition and is nestled in my front garden now, still looking great. It arrived very quickly as well. Thank you!—————————–You are very welcome! Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG

This plant arrived and it was absolutely beautiful! The packaging was perfect! It hasn’t lost but a few leaves, it’s green and beautiful! To be honest, I was hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. I am beyond happy!!!———————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! I am an avid gardener, former licensed certified Texas nurseryman, and have ordered from various online sellers in the past. I have to say that every single order I have received from Wilson Bros Gardens, has been a refreshing surprise upon receipt. The plants arrive in excellent condition, but more importantly, I can actually see them! What I mean by that is when ordering from your competition, I sometimes feel as if I need to grab a microscope to see the plant material. Obviously, this is a bit of sarcasm, but in all seriousness, your plants are what someone would actually see if they bought from a local nursery. The size of the plant matches the size of the container. They are not little slips or tender twigs but are ready to go into the ground and be seen in the landscape design.
Kudos to you all for running a great ship over there! I will be a customer for life with the kind of service and quality that you provide.——————————————————————-Thanks for the wonderful review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
