Southern Gentleman Winterberry Male Holly – 1 Gallon Pot

‘Southern Gentleman’ is a male Winterberry Holly that is the perfect stud for pollinating southern winterberry varieties, which have a later blooming time, such as ‘Sparkleberry’, ‘Winter Red’,‘Cacapon’, ‘Shaver’, ‘Sunset’, and ‘Winter Gold’. It is a vigorous growing, upright rounded shrub with glossy, dark green leaves through the warm season that turn yellow to purple-bronze in fall. Its white flowers do not produce berries, however Southern Gentleman is essential for enjoying the female berry bling!

Note: Southern Gentleman will pollinate five or more female winterberry hollies that are growing within 100 feet. That said. closer is better.

Winterberry hollies are very easy to grow in consistently moist to wet acidic soils of average or better fertility. They are adaptable to both light and heavy soils and grow well in poorly drained soils including boggy, wet conditions. Generally one male winterberry holly will be sufficient for pollinating 5 to 10 female plants. Flowers are born on new growth so you can prune to shape in late winter or early spring.
