The Sunburst Yew is easy to grow in full sun or part shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day for best density and foliage color. It grows well in most any moist but well drained soil of average or better fertility but does not like a constantly soggy or wet soil. It doesn’t require pruning however responds well to it for size control or shaping into hedges or topiary. We’ve seen no serious disease or insect problems and it is a very deer resistant plant.

Description
The Sunburst Yew is an exciting new hybrid Taxus sporting brilliant golden-yellow new foliage in spring fading to a soft yellow-green over the summer that contrasts well against the normal green older needles. This one has a spreading, mounding habit with ascending, outward-reaching arching stems to 5 to 7 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide when left to grow natural with no pruning. That said, it responds very well to pruning and can be kept half that size for use in smaller garden spaces, home foundation plantings, or as a clipped hedge. Also nice for topiary. It tolerates shade but the foliage color will be more showy with more sun so we suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day. The spreading habit and unique fern-like texture of this low-maintenance and versatile evergreen certainly adds another dimension to the landscape!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3.5 to 7 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide depending on pruning, the Sunburst Yew is versatile evergreen ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural or clipped hedge. An excellent shrub for home foundation plantings. Looks especially nice around garden ponds or in rock gardens. A fine addition to Asian gardens, rock gardens, yellow theme gardens, tropical look gardens, and conifer gardens.
Spacing: 4 to 5 feet for solid groupings or hedges; 12 feet or more for space between plants
