Description
Sunset Glow Bamboo is one of if not the most cold hardy bamboos in existence, withstanding temperatures to -20F. It is a very fast growing but well-behaved, which means it doesn’t spread like running bamboo. It will quickly grow 6 to 10 feet tall and then gradually spreads to form a rounded clump 6 to 10 feet wide. It has a dense, slightly weeping habit with willowy foliage that is a very graceful specimen in the landscape. It is also useful in groupings or as a mid-size hedge. In USDA Zones 5-7 it can be grown in full sun but we suggest some shade in the afternoon in Zones 8-9.

Growing Preferences

How To Grow Bamboo Plants Indoors
Sunset Glow Bamboo is a clumping bamboo that does not require any control to contain it. That said, it grows up to 10 feet wide. If you want to contain it to a smaller area this can be done. Bamboo can be controlled in a small area simply by mowing or stepping on the young shoots. Bamboo only puts up new shoots for a short time each year and, when they are “shooting,” the new plants are very fragile and easy to destroy. Root pruning or installing Bamboo Root Barrier are other methods to control spread.
