Description
An award-winning new Golden Box Honeysuckle, ‘Thunderbolt’ features dainty, glowing golden chartreuse foliage on a dense mounded form that you can allow to cascade naturally or shape as desired. Responding very well to pruning or shearing for various formal shapes or hedges, this textural and colorful beauty is a fine alternative to boxwood or Japanese holly for partially shaded areas. We suggest 3 to 4 hours of sunlight per day, preferably in the morning and/or evening hours. If left unpruned, the cascading branches form a soft-textured mound 3 to 4 feet tall and wide which lights up the garden. Excellent for a stunning natural or formal hedge in the garden or as a solo in containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, Thunderbolt Box Honeysuckle is ideal for use as an accent in partially shaded smaller garden spaces and containers or in groupings or as a natural or formal hedge in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Also a great candidate for creating living topiary shapes and forms. A fine selection for Asian or English gardens, formal gardens, topiary gardens, yellow color theme gardens, or container gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 3 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Thunderbolt Box Honeysuckle is very easy to grow in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and partial shade. We suggest 3 to 4 hours of sun during the morning and/or evening. Moderate drought tolerance when established. Responds very well to shearing for formal shapes, hedges and topiary. In our gardens, we’ve found it to have excellent resistance to pests and disease.
