Description
Without a doubt, ‘Tsuki No Shimo’ has to be one of the coolest of all Azaleas. The name translates to “moon frost,’ or “frost of the moon,” and this perfectly describes the shimmering flowers. The overlapping white petals have a soft pink marbling, and they do glisten like no other in the sun. A heavy bloom occurs in mid to late spring with a lighter rebloom in fall. Another unique feature of this cultivar is how the leaves curl all the way down their length, which provides very unique and interesting texture in the garden and backdrop for the flowers. Allowed to grow naturally, Tsuki No Shimo forms a mounding shrub 3 to 4 feet tall and wide in the ground. Excellent for garden beds or in pots and is a fine candidate for bonsai.

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a rounded mound 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, the Tsuki No Shimo Azalea is great for growing in garden beds or containers and is excellent for bonsai. In garden beds it is ideal for use as a specimen in small garden spaces or in groupings in landscape and woodland borders or home foundation plantings. A fine addition to bonsai gardens, Asian-theme gardens, pink theme gardens, Azalea gardens, cottage gardens, and partially shaded woodland gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for solid groupings; 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Evergreen Azaleas are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Moderate drought tolerance when established.

This is a beautiful little plant. It arrived quickly and in perfect condition. It is growing, even though the season is winding down, and is even showing a few buds. So, I am hoping for a modest Fall flowering. It has the most interesting foliage I have ever seen on an Azalea. This is my second Azalea purchase from Wilson Bros Gardens. Both have been excellent. Thanks!—————————————–You’re so welcome! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy your purchases for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and wonderful review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
Arrived as I expected , well packaged, pretty little leaves and small plant. Can’t wait to see it bloom.——————————————————-Thanks for the great review! We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
I’ve had this plant for maybe a month now. I am still getting used to the way the leaves naturally curl and have to tell myself to not panic & worry that I’m neglecting the plant. For now, the azalea is still in the original shipping pot and I’m waiting till next spring to transplant and start the process of creating a bonsai from this unusual Sansuki hybrid.
This is the 3rd gallon pot plant that I’ve purchased from Wilson Bros. From Etsy, & other online nurseries, I’ve mail ordered seeding/starter plants. There is certainly a wide range of how carefully things are packed for shipping. I am impressed with the care put into ensuring the soil stays in the pot and the cardboard supports attached to the inside of the shipping carton to keep the plant from shifting too much in the carton.
Word of experience: unpack shipped plant on top of a tarp to help with clean up, have a pair of needle nose pliers to pull out the many giant staples used for plant support inside box.———————————————–We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
