Description
A strong but beautiful large and fast growing tree, the Willow Oak shares similarities with other oaks but is unique in many other ways. Its most distinct attribute is the shape of its willow-like leaves; averaging 5 inches long and very narrow compared to the leaves of other oaks, hence the common name. The leaves emerge a bright green in spring shifting to a deeper green during summer. Fall brings shades of yellow, bronze and orange. It yields round, 1/2″ acorns that birds, deer and small animals will enjoy. The young bark is smooth and reddish-brown aging to gray-brown with shallow ridges and furrows. The strength of the willow oak can be seen by its majestic size and its rapid rate of growth up to 50 to 70 feet tall and 30 to 50 feet wide with a pyramidal shape when young maturing to an oval to rounded shape. A great and long-lived shade or street tree!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 50 to 75 feet tall and 30 to 50 feet wide, the Willow Oak is ideal for use on residential and commercial properties and in parks or on other properties that have the space to accommodate a large tree. An excellent shade tree around the home and for outdoor living areas and is nice in landscape and sunny woodland borders.
Suggested Spacing:  60+ feet for space between trees
Growing Preferences
The Willow Oak is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained to periodically wet soil and full sun to mostly sun. We suggest a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
